Content Section

The Centre for Russian and East European Studies is one of the world’s leading research institutes in its field. CREES is a multi-disciplinary centre with a strong orientation towards the social sciences and history.

While our expertise is firmly grounded in the former states of the USSR and Eastern Europe, we recognise the global importance of this region. This is reflected in CREES' research and teaching interests that cut across Eastern and Western Europe.


Undergraduate courses
The centre offers two different undergraduate degree programmes: European Politics, Society and Economics and Russian Studies. Russian is also offered as part of Modern Languages.

Postgraduate degree
We offer Taught masters degrees in Contemporary Russian and East European Studies including a Caucasus and Central Asia Pathway and Russian and East European Studies tailored towards research oriented students from the UK / EU.

Research degree programmes
We offer MA, MPhil and PhD research degrees on a full- and part-time basis.

Research
The wide-ranging research programme of the Centre includes studies of Russian, Ukrainian and Central European politics, society and culture, post-socialist economic transformation, the history of Russia and the Soviet Union, and security studies.
